Ray Petrin Wins 2010 Tournament of Aces
2010winner

Day 2 started with 18 players primed and ready for the toughest day of poker yet.  With the largest stack at 976,000, and the smallest stack at 69,000 a fierce battle ensued.  As day two began 4 stacks stood out amongst the rest Joe Braga held nearly 1 million in chips with 976,000.  Following close behind was Al Renaud with 883,000.  In third place was Steve Varney with 718,000, followed by Chris Iannucci with 633,000.  Alas only 2 of these courageous players would make the final table Joe Braga, and Al Renauld.
As the final table sat ready for the first card out Brian Butman, Al Renauld, Matt Morin, Tobi Blanchette, Joe Duarte, Joe Braga, Bob Elliot, Deb Smallwood, and Ray Petrin would be among the 9 players poised to take the crown.  The first to be eliminated in 9th place was Brian Butman.  Al Renaud, despite his massive stack at the start of day 2 would be next, being eliminated in 8th place.  Matt “2-4” Morin would next prove that 2-4 is not always the best hand by being eliminated in 7th.  After Tobi Blanchette was knocked out in 6th place the battle began to intensify with only 5 players left.  Joe Duarte in spite of all odds and having less than 10 times the blinds when day 2 began would last most of the day and finally get knocked out in 5th place.  Joe Braga, our Day 2 chip leader, would finally meet his match at the hands of Ray Petrin and be eliminated in 4th place.
With Only 3 players now remaining there was only one thought on each ones mind… “It has to be me”.  Debra Smallwood, Bob Elliot, and Ray Petrin were all that remained of the field of players well over 150 deep that began play the day before.  Only one of those players would be able to declare victory over the rest.
The first to be knocked out from our final 3 was Bob Elliot.  Bob put up a great fight, and after starting the day with our 5th largest stack held strong until running into Ray Petrin being our 3rd place finisher.
Deb Small Wood and Ray Petrin battled heads up for about an hour until Ray Petrin finally gained the upper hand.  And when Ray put Debra all In with 6-8 suited of spades Debra called with top pair, unfortunately Ray hit a flush taking Debra out 2nd and claiming first place.
Congratulations Ray for an incredible 2 days of play.  Players like you are what Aces Up is all about, the average guy who can turn a golden opportunity into thousands of dollars.  Ray decided to take the cash instead of the trip to Vegas and the seat to the WSOP this year.  Who will win next year, will Ray defend his title, will our past winners Gene Babcock or Sheryl Greco regain their throne, or will a new up and coming poker genius take the crown in 2011.  No one really knows but one thing is certain…. We can’t wait to find out.
